He is 19 and has Tourette Syndrome. Takes Keppra to control tics and Zoloft for anxiety. Developed the heat intolerance with this drug combination.
Hi. I have no knowledge of Keppra but know what Tourette Syndrome is. I have been taking Zoloft for several years (since I was around the age of 22) wow so I guess about 10 years now (I'm 32) I remember when I 1st started taking Zoloft, one of the things I read in the pamphlet that came with it was that it could cause sensitivity to light (especially in the beginning while one adjusts to the medication) which I did experience & noticed that though the light sensitivity went away, I have been very intolerant of heat ever since then. I actually never connected it to the Zoloft. Thanks so much for your question as now I am going to start doing more research on whether the extreme heat sensitivity can be caused by the Zoloft. Maybe for your son, the Keppra aggravates it. What happens to me when it's hot (& it doesn't have to be outside in the sun either, just heat from any source) even when it's in the mid to high 80s degrees outside & the house starts to warm up (which to most people is not considered hot) I get extremely fatigued & get really bad headaches. Sometimes if I'm living somewhere where I don't have access to an air conditioner, I will wake up with a headache & end up staying in bed all day rotating ice packs from my forehead to the back of my neck. My fave time of year is when it's cold outside, mostly fall or winter as I'm so heat intolerant that I'm barely able to function during the warmer months. Summer is hell for me. I wish you the best in finding some more answers about this. Hopefully my information helped you at least a little. Take care.
