Is it better than nothing? I assume it will be less potent, but is it dangerous?

Make sure it's not expired, and if your son was on 5 mg Adderall maybe, and a very slight maybe, benefit will be achieved. You may want to ask your son why he ran out of his Adderall early when it's a monthly Rx. There may be issues that need attention if he's running out early. College students love to purchase Adderall off prescription holders, and if he has a roommate, maybe a lockbox might not be a bad idea.
