Sepsis is a dangerous disease. Go to Sepsis.org to read as much as you can about it. They have everything you could possibly want to know on that site.
Many people with sepsis have to be put in a coma and intubated to be able to give their bodies the chance to regain some healing energy. Sepsis attacks the whole body. And frequently patients will have problems breathing. Patients with severe sepsis or septic shock have a mortality (death) rate of about 40%-60%, with the elderly having the highest death rates. Newborns and pediatric patients with sepsis have about a 9%-36% mortality rate.
