I have been on (Cymbalta, Effexor, Zolofot, Remeron (nightmare) Seroquel (another not so good one), Lexapro. I am currently on Cymbalta, Wellbutrin and Lamictal but I think they have pooped out. I need some possible WEIGHT neutral medications for mood and major depressive disorder. Any ideas?
Hi ncb10233, I would like to suggest that you see a good doctor, and get help from him .Compiling a list of anti-depressants is a risky method to resort to. There are many new as well as old time tested medications available today. But a prescription given by a professional expert would be the best. Be honest with your doc and relate all your symptoms accurately .
Obviously, not a medical professional here, but I gained a HUGE amount of weight on Cymbalta, and I kept begging my doctor to switch me to something else (5 years this went on). He said it's not the Cymbalta- it's a weight-neutral drug. Well, when he finally relented and agreed to switch me to Wellbutrin, I dropped 60 pounds in 7 months. That's kind of a big deal.
I can't remember if I'm on this as part of MDD or also for nerve pain issues, but I also take Topamax. Let me give you a public service announcement on this one. It has a reputation, and is called "dopeamax" for a reason. While you're titrating up, you're literally struck dumb. I caught myself staring at paperwork and the letters just blended together - vision disturbances. My boss had to carry my weight for about 3 months because I made stupid mistakes that even got other people in trouble, but she smoothed it over because I had a sit down with her when I started to explain what was happening.
Once I got to the final dose, I found something absolutely, COMPLETELY bizarre. If I needed 100mg per day and took 2 50mg pills, one in the morning and one in evening, I was a lost cause, idiot. If I took one, 100mg pill, something about the coating, the timed release made all the stupid go away. Which means I'm completely up a creek if I ever need to wean from this medication(!), but the answer to end my suffering was there all along.
I mention Topamax because pharmaceutical manufacturers have been trying to work on a formulation combo of Wellbutrin and Topamax and market it as a weight-loss pill.
The mood-stabilizer that I am on is weight-neutral Lamictal.
