Cost alone is virtually 400.00 for name brand #60 and 4.00 for the same # in generic. Why??? I believe that there is an extreme difference I'm just not sure how and why when pharacists insist they are the same compound.
The generic versions of Soma have all been assigned the therapeutic equivalent code "AB" by the FDA. This means that the generic versions "should" be the same. By all accounts they contain the same active ingredients but may have different tablet fillers, preservatives etc. They should provide the same effect - in reality this appears not always to be the case.
The FDA and almost any pharmacist will tell you that the generic brands work the same as the brand name, but this is true only to an extent. I can tell you about the differences i've experienced in drugs like xanax, klonopin, artane, wellbutrin, paxil and vicodin just to start.
The FDA actually says that generics must meet quality standards of generics from 80% to 125%... The information is jumbled in this document: http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DevelopmentApprovalProcess/ucm079068.htm
Also, the chemicals put into the drugs will vary... for example sugar..different culinary sugars have different densities due to differences in particle size and inclusion of moisture. Powdered sugar will obviously dissolve faster than granulated sugar. Some sugar brands have more finely granulated sugar too. The different chemicals in your medication will also mix together differently because of this. Dyes and fillers play a role too.
The FDA is ruled by money not facts.
You shouldn't buy overseas meds because you have no idea what is in them.
I have been told this many times myself, but I have also had different effects from it depending on if I ate that day, or sometimes 1 or 2 won't work so I have to take 3. These are the generic kind, so maybe there is some truth to the name brand ones. I can tell you that it is the only drug that helps my chronic myofascial pain and quality of sleep, but I cannot get more than 45 at a time which is NOT enough. I could probably be off of all of my pain killers (morphine/vicidin) only if I had enough Soma's. I don't abuse my pain pills, I don't abuse my vyvanse, but once I took too many soma's because they were not working and then they kicked in all at once. I ended up at the hospital because I couldn't talk or walk right. It is really hard to tell when they will work or if they will work. That is all I have to say, but I love them because they work, not because I want to get "high". I can't seem to get any physician to understand that.
You would think if I suffer from a painful muscular disorder that medication would make the most sense, but I can't get them. Oh! They are also the only and I mean only thing that makes me have a good nights rest. I have horrific nightmares on Trazadone/Lunesta/rozerum. I have to go to a sleep study, which I think is funny because without my soma's there will be no sleep going on. If I can't sleep in the comfort of my own room, what makes these people think I am going to be able to sleep with a bunch of wires hooked up to me and people looking at me. Whatever! The doctors are the Gods and even though we live in our body's and know what works and doesn't work, your never heard.
