In a nut shell, sudden ruthless case of degenerate disk disease plus herniated disc. At home, can't sit at all, can't stand w/o using a 'walker'(if I push down hard on the handles it takes some of the pressure off). In the ER they did an MRI and sent me home with Valium, 8mg of sub to take ever eight hours., and Toridal. Nothing is helping. I have no family here. But I do have excellent insurance, right now. I can't even talk to the neurosurgeon until Tues, do to the holiday. So how do I get the Dr's to give me real pain medicine??? My boys go there dads tomorrow and then I will have no help. Any ideas out there? Thanks, Harmony
So, now that I am suddenly in HORRIBLE pain and full of the useless suboxone, what do I do?

Terri and everyone in the 'DC' group. If laugher is the best medicine then, I have a good one for you.
From the very beginning I was kind jealous of this loving, tight knit, Wa D.C. Group that all that 'cool people' seemed to belong to. I imagines them getting together, getting coffee, and occasionally, hanging out. When I lived in WA state we made up and "owey, mommy's club and would meet in the park a couple times a month and go out to dinner once a month. The more people who I noticed seemed to be a part of this mysterious DC group, the more isolated I felt.
Uh, well, DUH, I just figured out that the DC group must actually stand for, not the city, but well, for abbreviation for Drugs.com! Boy, did I feel stupid! (and relieved that I wasn't missing out on some private click that everyone but me seemed to be a part of!) Okay, you can laugh now. Love, Your friend, Harmony

And, there's more! Today is a little better than yesterday, which was worse than fri. I ended up taking some old xanax an then you doin relaxation and pain control exercises and actually sleep. I still can't walk w/o a walker ( btw, I am only 47) and sit for about five mins. My ex-to- be is letting the boys spend the day ( the 'boy's' are 13, 15, 17) and they are great helper.
Now, here is the weird thing. I took a total of 16 mgs of sub on fri, 4 on sat and 1 on sun( in case I had to go back to the hospital) and tynonal and the toradol.
I have leg cramps to day so, I think I should take 4mgs to day, or I will get withdrawly. And, it will help with the pain. Gosh, I hope this neurosurgeon gets all this!
I can't see the dr due to the holiday, hopefully, tomorrow.
Any ideas my dear DC friends? Gosh, love this site! Holly/Harmony

I'm doing better now. Still a little crooked, and very stiff and sore. Well, it turns out that I had an over zealous radioloist and I really didn't need a neurosurgeon, Thank God! I have a very bad strain/sprain of my lower back. I should be fine after a couple of weeks and NO LIFTING ANYTHING over 10 lbs...that rules out one of my cats! (The boys call her blubber-nugget!) Rest, ice, advil and muscle relaxers, and, well, time. No back surgery for me! Love, and grandma walker-free, Harmony
Ultimately it sounds like you're going to have to discontinue the suboxone in order to be put on anything different. That med as we all know does not interact well with other opioid painkillers. In regards to see a doctor sooner vs later, the only thing that I can think of is going to the er.
Best of luck to you!
Hey Harmony Sweetie,
I just answered your other question but wanted to respond here too. Like I said in the other post I think you are going to have to have some pain meds. Is there another ER you can go to? If not, how about a minor emergency clinic? You need to try and get something done today before you are left there alone. It will take a little while before the pain meds will work due to the subs. My hubby went through this. If you need me I'm here. Feel free to send me a pq. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Love and hugs -Terri-
I also responded on your other question. The biggest problem may be how to tell them about the Sub without sounding like a total needle using Heroin addict. Originally that's who Suboxone was meant for.
The way I do it is by saying I was never a Heroin user. I avoid the words addict and addiction as much as possible. I then say I was put on Suboxone because this drug, the Buprenorphine doesn't cause a tolerance to develop. Then say, I wanted straight Buprenorphine meaning Subutex, but since the med went generic I heard bad things about generic Subutex so I agreed to Suboxone. But I am not and I never was an opiate addict. I take it for pain. But ever since this new thing happened to me Buprenorphine is not a good med. So doctor please, I hope you can switch me to something that will help my pain. Because Buprenorphine is just not helping.
I'd say something like that.
Now this is just for your knowledge. This is to prove even docs don't understand this drug. They claim Bupe works best on pain in doses under 1 mg a day. This is why the Butrans patch is such small amounts and why Buprenex, injectable Bupe, is also such small doses. They say micro doses work best for pain. But what did the ER do? They gave you even more. See what I mean. They don't know.
I've been using Bupe for pain some 8 years, on and off. I have found that increasing the dose does kill more pain. BUT ... there is a limit to the kind of pain Bupe can kill. I know what I'm saying. Bupe isn't going to kill the pain you have right now. Just like it couldn't kill the pain when my Gall Bladder ruptured. I say you need Morphine IM or even IV. That will stop your pain.
Keep us posted Harmony. We're all worried about you.
Harmony you really made me laugh with what you added to the question. It was funny. DC = Drugs.com lol that's all. And you sure are part of the inner circle now. We all know you. I just wish you didn't have to become so well known with all this pain. If we all could get together we'd come there and talk to your Docs with you. There better be at least 1 smart and wise Doc who will give you a strong med like Morphine or Dilaudid or even Opana. And if they need to sedate you, sometimes they put a little Fentanyl in and that stuff kicks ass. (I mean it kicks pain's ass) Fentanyl given IV is a great med.
So you're hilarious. I hope you feel better soon. Keep letting us know how you are.
Btw, did you get the converter? Did you try it? Let me know if you figured it out? It's easy, once you use it a few times. One last thing. You don't have to reset it every time you want to check a new drug. Just put the new drug in and click calculate.
Hahaha. Hrmnee, I did the same thing for the first couple of months! I couldn't figure out why all these people got together to have coffee, cuz it sounded like they were all kinda having tough medical problems, then they'd all get together so easily! And, they all lived near each other! Then, they'd say where they lived, and I figured they all traveled a lot!!! But, couldn't figure out why I wasn't invited at some point to join in! So glad I didn't buy any plane tickets in anticipation of a coffee clutch in WA DC!! Hahaha. What a riot. I hope you get the needed help, girl... Jillian:)
Harmony - Hehehe. I just read the additional info on your question. I about laughed myself outta my chair. I think it's great that you can laugh at youself and allow us to laugh with you!! You are a very special woman and I am happy to call you friend and part of the DC family. I guess we need no make it a little more clear what that means huh? I sure hope you are getting the help you need. Let us know how you are doing. I am concerned about you sweetie. My prayers are with you.
Love and hugs -Terri-
It's a little past Midnight on the Eastern side of the North American continent, so I don't know if you will see this before you leave for the Doc on Tuesday. If you do, what time is your Doc appointment for? Are you going to bring an over night bag with you, just in case he sends you straight to the hospital to get admitted? I think you should. Take whatever you will need in case you don't get to come home again. I really don't know, I'm just guessing. I hope you either have a Laptop you can bring along, or maybe hospitals have a PC patients can use? I hope you can let us know what happens.
Based on your last update it sounds like the increased doses of Sub helped kill your pain some more. Is that what you meant? That makes sense to me because I got additional pain relief last Fall when I increased my dose for my broken tooth. But I think you have done the right thing in reducing the dose again today in anticipation of better meds tomorrow. I know I've said all this before but I'll say it again. Even 12 hours since your last dose of Sub is enough to get pain relief from other opiates. The typical problems are you will need a larger dose than what you would needed, and you will need another dose sooner than usual. I always found the bigger problem was with the pain med wearing off too quickly. However, since you are a Sub newbie, as well as because you take such a small dose, there is a chance that the new pain med will effect you the same as it would have if you weren't on Sub. That's what I'm hoping for. And yes Holly, you are way too young to have to be going through all this. Sometimes I believe we who suffer the most in this life, will do the best in the world that is to come. I hope this is true for all of us. I'll check this question tomorrow.
Best wishes Thor
Um, yummy, wish I was there. I guess I just have to bs there virtually in my mind. I can walk without the walker today. I am exhausted since I was in too much pain to sleep most weekend. I just fell asleep typin. My appt with the neurosurgeon is thur at 9am. Thanks for being there, and supporting me. Oh,if you only knew the REST of the story. Sigh. Thx. Thx. Thx. Love, Harmony ?may ?I
Od Bless you All!
