haven't got on the scale but clothes tight, but Lyrica does really help with the pain, which I can barely handle at times... guess I have to make a decision... weight gain or return to pain... can't exercise too much...
Are you trying to stay away from narcotic medication? cause hydrocodone works great and doesnt make you gain weight. If you are not interested in opiates you can always try celebrex it is expensive but i found out of all the non-narcotic medications it works great. Only problem with celebrex is it is a little expensive so hopefully you have insurance.
Welcome. I took Lyrica for a little while and I gained 10 pounds in 4 weeks and it also made me have suicidal thoughts which I found out is a adverse effect of Lyrica. Alot of people say it helps with the pain but if you gain alot of weight you will be back in pain again, too It is hard decide what to do sometimes with certain meds because it affects everyone differently. I think if it is helping you may have to see if you gain much more, sometimes you gain it all at once and then it stops and levels out, I don't know if you want to take that risk but it may be worth a shot if it helps you. Try diet foods and you said you can't exercise but what about a pool, the water helps support you so it doesn't hurt nearly as much. You may also have some water weight you should see if it is water weight or (pardon the expression) fat. Pain is no fun, I have had enough of it in my life--- 22 major surgeries including ones for cancer also, so my dear I know pain.
Are you worried about addiction to narcotics? Because I now take Vicodin ES and it works really well, so far no addiction but I know it is a risk, but with the pain so severe sometimes, the risk right now is worth it if it helps the pain. Lyrica is not a narcotic so don't worry about that o.k.. Just watch out for the negative thoughts and the weight gain and see if it is worth it for you. Hope this has helped some. Good luck angelnot.
I also tried lyrica and also had immediate weight gain. I wasn't too happy about the weight either but it did help with the pain... BUT made me a very different person mentally,so becareful with that. I couldn't take it anymore because of the side effects. I'm am still in a lot of pain and still trying to find something that works for me. If your only problem with it is the weight gain I would stick with it since chronic pain is terrible to live with, trust me I know. Good luck and welcome to this site, it is very, very helpful.
Hi anglenot, I take Methadone for pain in conjuction with 50mgs.of Lyrica a dinnertime ( seems ironic ) have to refuse dessert because of the Lyrica and before bed I get... another dose of Lyrica(75mgs.) hell of a snack and with out eating more yes I have noticed my jeans are a little (alot) more snug. The worse part is it does work, hard decision to make. I think most of us with chronic pain issues have limited cardio exercise available. I am in Florida so, I do have access to a pool and jacuzzi all day up till ten a night. I spend alot of time in the pool, but I am an absolute freak about what the sun does to your skin. Oh well, I think I have less to complain about than alot of folks on this site. A nice group, welcome! Fall Queen
