Hi sadgirlncali!!! I hope you'll be "happycaligirl" soon! LOL Below is a website all about suboxone. It''ll tell you all ya want to know about suboxone therapy and help you find a doctor near you.
I tried to put it as a link... but i guess i don't know how. Anyway, Suboxone is not easy to come off from either, but i do believe it was the right choice for me. I cut down to about 40mgs/day of methadone before starting subs (Most prefer you get down to at least 30mg). I had to wait 48hrs w/o anything before the first dose of sub. You basically have to, to avoid precipitated withdrawals. You'll read all about that on the website. With suboxone/subutex therapy you will be required to have a therapist--- is't crucial to success. Suboxone cost more than methadone, although you can get a coupone for $75 a month off if you get the new suboxone "films" rather than the tablets. If you are lucky enough to find a doc that will give you subutex... there is a generic form of that now. I applaud your wanting to do something better for yourself. Just do your research on the the site above and all the old posts here. My biggest advice at this time, from my own experience... get down to the lowest possible dose of methadone before making the switch. You will need to be in a situation where you can devote time and some money into recovery... it's not a miracle drug, sub just gives keeps you from the nasty wdls while you work out in therapy the reasons for your addiction. Ive been 2 months now on suboxone and i never any crave or consider taking opiates. I do, however, have alot of depression when i'm alone... but i had that way before starting abusing drugs anyway. People on this site can help alot... great bunch of caring people :) Hope this helps
doctors will all tell you suboxone is easier to detox off of, but it's also twice as much, and the doctors will get more $ if you're on suboxone as opposed to Methadone- I've talked to doctors who don't deal with ether, and they say that both drugs have their own set of detoxing problems... so they're probably equally difficult. You can detox off Methadone without noticable side effects though- you just have to detox very, very slowly, like going down 1mg every 3 or 4 days. I just talked to someone who detoxed from 100 to 0 in 30 days, and she said her only symptom was occasional wrestles/sleeplessness. I went down from 160 to 29 in a year, then just quit cold turkey a week ago saturday, I'm doing ok. I have muscle relaxers, and sleep pills though. (thank God!)
You will have withdrawls if you dont tapper down slow no matter what the thomas recipe might help at 55mg I do know that thomas has worked for alot of people walking off at 55-60 mg but a little dis comfort so ,with kids soboxen you have to not dose for 72 hrs withdrawling before you can take but then you can come off suboxen within a week or so if you do it correct. hope this helps
