I have been dealing with insomnia for about a year. I have no problem falling asleep - it's staying asleep. Then when I wake up in the middle of the night, I have anxiety. I have tried melatonin, but I feel like it is not working for me anymore. I do not feel comfortable taking prescription drugs - but the no sleep and anxiety is becoming debilitating! HELP!
You might have to up your mg intake on the Melatonin just like you would with any other medication that your body has gotten used to. You can even try a timed release to help with staying asleep.
I also have heard of tart cherry juice, not cherry cocktail, plain tart cherry juice. I read up on it a bit and it says it has some similar ways of helping you sleep like Melatonin does.
Valerian root is also a vitamin supplement that helps with insomnia and anxiety.
Always make sure with your dr, if you are on any other prescriptions, that it's ok to take certain vitamins with them.
Sleep; Before you increase the medication or add you should talk to the Pharmacist to make sure some of these they really have not done enough testing on to see where the toxic level is. And that would be more so when you are mixing several things. But Melatonin is very good for most people but you are on the stronger one now so it would really be best to ask the pharmacist how many you can take in one night. I know when I was on the regular 5mg The doctor also had me take Magnesium 250mg with it saying they worked better together. good luck to you.
