... cause Sleep Paralysis. I've experienced this twice in my life and it's terrifying. Insurance won't cover my Dalmane unless I try the Belsomra.
I take 10 mg. Belsomra as needed for sleep onset problems. I have had no negative side effects & no hungover feeling the next morning. It has worked quite well for me. I had a type of Sleep Paralysis episode once but it was years ago. If it isn't listed as a 'common' side effect, I would try not to worry too much since it is such a new drug & a lot of precautions were put seemingly because its action may be similar to sleeping meds like Ambien and thus, the 'hypnotic' disclaimers & Schedule IV control on it. There actually is no proof it is habit forming/addictive; in fact, it was the lack of evidence that it's not potentially so that caused it to be labeled a Scheduled medication (you can find this info online if you do a search, btw). Bottom line is, it is so new that all the bases must be covered.
You could also try cutting a tab in half the first night you take it... & if you're still very scared anyway, I can understand that. Have you tried discussing why a trial of this med makes you anxious with your insurance company and/or your doctor? I think the best route would be to talk to your doctor about it and see if he/she can appeal to the insurance company on your behalf regarding this issue.
