... i had him in my bed the other night and noticed he gets into a deep sleep then stops breathing for about 10 seconds, then he has a huge choke like gasp and wakes up in a panic. ii have always went to his cot when he cried before but never realised what was making him wake up. i am now scared to sleep and spend half the night watching him sleep (in my bed). could this result in cot death? im so worried my doctor cant see him until the 8th. is thre anything i can do to help him as he does it sometimes around 8 times a night?
If he has a breathing problem, just be aware the brain has a remarkable way of forcing us to breathe. He may have a problem with his nasopharynx area which the doctor will investigate. Try to relax and let the doctors do their thing.
You may have to let him sleep with you till then and have him sleep with his head elevated. I found that helps my breathing. And yes, I do have sleep apnea and if I don't wear my CPAP at night, I sometimes wake with a terrible headache because of my breathing.
Is there a baby nosespray you can use to dilate his sinuses for better breathing. Just don't use it the night before his appt.
That's all I can think of right now. Hope you have good appointment!
Hi, i would push for an earlier appointment. Like the ladies have said, there may be a simple solution & i don't want to worry you, but it must be causing you a great deal of stress. If you explain why your son needs this appointment i'm sure you can get an 'emergency' appointment much sooner...
thanks everyone for your help ill try these tips with him tonight. this site is very good im so glad i found it
In my opinion I agree with Dellia, when I use to have issues with my children when they were younger I would request and emergency to be on the safe side, truthfully if it was me the way I worry I probably would bring my child to the er, I wouldn't beable to wait to the 8th of January even if it is only 5 days but that is me... hope all goes well sending my prayers your way for your child and yourself...
thanks angel, yes i too thought id better get an emergency appointment but as usual the receptionist did not class this as such! i bet shes not a mother! anyways last night was better as i had him with pillows larger than hes used to and he still snored louldly but never really stopped breathing (while i was awake anyway) i try my hardest to stay up as long as i can to monitor him but sleep gives in around 3am , i need some sleep so i can function myself. hopefully i have made him a bit more comfortable with bigger pilows i will see what tonight brings xxx
