34 male just prescribed 20mg Adderall. They work great calms my head, lets me focus, I can actually complete something I start, without jumping to the next project. and many more... but its now the third day and still no sleep, accept a 1 hr power nap.. is this normal the first week??
I'm a 29 year old female, and I've been prescribed Adderall for almost a year now. I'm currently prescribed the 30mg tablets (2x/day.) If I were to take TWO a day (60mg total), I honestly believe my heart would explode from beating so fast, not to mention that sleep would NEVER be a part of my life again. One RX lasts me at least two months. I don't have health insurance; therefore, my doctor writes the RX for the two 30mg/day so that I can cut them into halves (or whatever) as needed. I generally take half of a tablet each day (15mg.) I, like you, can accomplish my work and focus with no issues at all. But, when it comes to sleep, it rarely happens. I'm also prescribed Ambien (12.5 mg) and have been for over 10 years. Occasionally I will take one to get some sleep, but all in all: For me: my brain won't shut down. (If that makes any sense.) I am exhausted, and sometimes I'm so exhausted to the point where my entire body is aching.
Sleep doesn't come easily, but if I don't take the Addrrall, then I'm useless. Without it, I can't stay focused, I feel scatterbrained, I become very disorganized, and I find myself starting other tasks before I've even completed one task. I've tried to adjust my dosage (thinking 15mg was too much for me) but anything less causes me to lose focus and obtain the attention span of a pre-schooler.
For me, the benefits outweigh the side-effects. Sleep is wonderful, believe me. I love to sleep; however, I feel that now I have to choose between taking this medication (as I need it) vs. Sleeping. Eventually, my lack of sleep kicks my butt, and I will sleep for an entire weekend. Obviously, that's not healthy at all.
I've had some success with taking Melatonin at night. I have to take at least 2-3 of the 10mg. capsules.
ZzQuil has also been helpful. I keep both of these on-hand, along with my Ambien.
I'd take the Ambien every night, but I've been on it for so long that it loses its affect after so long (with me.) That's why I don't take it every day.
My prescribing physician is a Psychiatrist.
I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to ramble. I'm not even entirely sure if I was of any help at all to you. If not, I sincerely apologize.
