With or without food? I've never "noticed" much relief from the spasms on Sleelaxin. I used to take Soma and they REALLY worked but no doctor anywhere near here will write those ESP. W/long term narcotic pain relievers. What has been y'alls experience with Zanaflex? I also started Opana 15 mg SR(?)the extended or slow release) every 12 hours, is it best to take it without food 2hours before and after to get the correct effect? Thanks anybody for ANY HELP???
I take Zanaflex and prefer it to Soma. I've 4mg tablets and I've been prescribed two every six hours if needed. I take them on an empty stomach most of the time, but I've been having problems with nausea lately and Zanaflex can cause nausea. You probably should eat, and be prepared to go to bed in about half an hour after you take one, or the dose your doc has prescribed. Especially for the first week to ten days if you take them daily.
You may find them just as effective as Soma!
P.S. I agree about Skelaxin, it just doesn't do anything for me, either.
Definitely take the Zanaflex with a little food - it can cause some stomach pain similar to NSAIDs (e.g., Ibuprofen or Naproxen). Also, Zanaflex is much more sedating than Skelaxin, or even Soma. I take Zanaflex only at night, or if I'm in a flare-up, because I am completely unable to function on 4 mg of Zanaflex - it just knocks me out. I do know one person who had the opposite reaction and was UNABLE to sleep on Zanaflex, but I think that's pretty uncommon, so be prepared to go to bed. I'm not familiar with Opana. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!
I have been on all three of these medications too. I am back on Soma again (new Dr doesnt have a problem with them but my previous docs were like yours, they refused to prescribe to anyone!) I used Zanaflex for years and they knocked me out! 30 minutes after taking one and I was out for the count so dont take one if you need to be alert. I swear one day I was dreaming with my eyes open! I only took them at bedtime and even after a year of taking them they still knocked me out but hey, I slept well. Better then than I do now on Soma because, although Soma does make me a little sleepy it is not as bad as Zanaflex. Skelaxin doesnt do anything for me either. Yes, Opana should be taken on an empty stomach for it to work best.
