I was prescibed paxil but dont feel a change other than feeling disconnected in a way that im not crying anymore. I worry alot, always stressed and rarely get a good nights sleep. I dont know how else to explain to my doctor that Paxil isnt providing the kind of relief i expected. i many ways i feel more anxious-now its added a worry of my paxil medications effectiveness.
I have significant anxiety issues. Constant stress, worry, lack of sleep etc. Will Paxil work?

i can say i do have depression issues as well-as stated i do think its helping in that respect as it makes me somewhat numb to expressing my sadness, other than that my anxiety level still remains and sleep is something that im looking forward to having at more than 2 hours at a time. i often times wake up after a couple of hours and continuously have racing thoughts and worry. I need help to calm down. My doctor, i heard is not really big on prescribing things such as xanax or valium. im new to my area and went to him, which i think may have been a mistake. Ive never been on these type of medications before because of the stigma-but i feel like i definitely have a need for them because i feel like i am spiraling downward. Someone please advise.
Hello minajade. Not certain how long you have been taking Paxil or your dose. I would give it time. Paxil is one of the more successful of the SSRI family of drugs in the treatment of GAD (General anxiety disorder) If you do feel no improvement, you have other options. The benzodiazepines all be they extremely effective, are a handful when time to be no longer taking them. The longer on a benzodiazepine (Xanax etc) the more difficult and more harsh of a time the individual will have when stopping. Regards pledge
Anxiety is a vicious circle sometimes! If you are not getting proper sleep you will have anxiety from that too! See if your doctor can prescribe something like Trazodone. You can have Melatonin which is natural and at the pharmacy too. Just ask the pharmacist if it's ok with your meds. If you can get your sleep pattern back to normal that will help a lot. Ask the pharmacist how long you should give Paxil time to work for you for your anxiety/depression.
Hello I'm sorry you are having such a rough time.I too took Paxil for a while it neither helped depression or anxiety.if its helping depression though I would stick to it.but I would see if your doc might add an anxiety Med. Tell him all you do is worry and have panic attacks and don't like to leave the house.but don't ask for specific kind like Xanax alot of pdocs don't like prescribeing it.but tell him you need a way to control it quickly. He might give u ativan hell he may do Xanax.but if he says klonopin it takes almost over an hour to kick in.I'm currently suffering from change of Xanax to klonopin I still have anxiety attacks.anyway hope this helps
You sound like me back in Jan/Feb. I was going through the same thing and its a horrible feeling, esp when you can't sleep-it really does add to the anxiety. I was given Xanax to help with the anxiety and to get my mind to calm down so I could sleep and at first it helped-it was quick too, but it didn't last very long and eventually it stopped working for me. I was then switched to Klonopin-it takes awhile to kick in, but it helps with anxiety and it lasts longer then Xanax. I was also put on an antidepressant-I'm not depressed-I just started getting anxiety and panic attacks. Anyway, the first antidepressant-Lexapro-was horrible-it increased my anxiety and my heart raced... I lasted 1 week on that and then was switched to Zoloft. I had a hard time adjusting to that (not like Lexapro though), but felt I really needed to give it a try. After a week, my anxiety started to decrease some-I went up in dose very slowly-which I think helped my body adjust to the meds.
I've been on 50 mg of Zoloft and take the Klonopin as needed-which isn't often anymore. I also alternate nightly between Melantonin (I take it with "Sleepy Time Tea") and Unisom. Good luck! If you can get some sleep, it will really help with the anxiety and if you need Xanax, Ativan or Klonopin-get some-they offer quick relief of anxiety and sometimes thats all you may need for some sleep and to get that anxiety to go awhile.
Hi Minajade, I see your post was a few months back, and I wondered if the Paxil ever helped? It is very frustrating waiting to see if a medication will work and many times the side effects are hard to deal with while waiting. I just started Prozac and Wellbutrin together, was just on Prozac. I knew it would cause anxiety in the beginning, but it was still hard even though I knew to expect it. Ugh. I'm still praying the combination will work, I'm not living, just existing. I don't know how to stop constantly wonder what people are thinking as they walk by my office, or any other time. I hope you are doing better!
