Me and my girlfriend had sex this morning and I'm wondering if Plan B will work if she's 16 years old
It will work for her the same as for older girls. She needs to get some protection tho, plan B is only 80% effective as opposed to hormonal birth control which is 99% effective. Plan B has side effects like nausea and swollen breasts and delayed periods. If she keeps having unprotected sex she'll get pregnant sooner or later and while the guy can and probably will walk away, the girl has the problem.
Plan b works for any woman who is sexually mature and menstruates (has a period). Plan b is designed to delay ovulation. If she has already ovulated, it doesnt work (this doesnt automatically mean she will get pregnant but chances are very good!). This is why it is not meant for birth control and only for emergencies. It is tempting for girls and young couples to think of it as an option since they dont have to see a physician to get it but it is a poor option to use as regular birth control. First and fore most, it is not as effective as regular hormonal birth control, it is way more expensive as well. Her best option, if she is going to be having sex is to go to her doctor or the local family planning clinic and get onto a reliable form of birth control. This is the MOST effective way to prevent unplanned pregnancies.
