I cancelled my appointment for me most recent depo shot in late July, I have been on the shot since October of 2005 (almost 11 years) and had to stop getting it due to issues with my health insurance no longer covering it. I did not experience any of the extensive bleeding that I have read of, during my treatment. I started getting the shot for birth control instead of taking the pill because my doctor thought it would be safer with my history of subcutaneous blood clots after a car accident. I'm curious about the range of time that it could take before I am fertile again and begin having periods again. My husband is having a vasectomy in a couple of weeks so we can eliminate the cost of birth control entirely, but I am trying to determine my risk of becoming pregnant during the 6 months before he will no longer be fertile.
It can take up to 18 months to regain fertility (from the point you miss your shot), but everyone is different. For some it is much sooner.
During this time, you may get irregular bleeding.
It cannot be guaranteed that you won't get pregnant, despite not having regular periods.
