My daughter who is 13 years old who weighs 39 kg is taking the medicine Trileptal 1200 is the dosage correct?
Hi, for children ages 2 to 16, the recommended starting dose is based on weight. The starting dose is 8 mg to 10 mg per kg. So according to this sum your daughter should be taking about 32mg daily. However, it is quite common for patients at the top end of this scale (or 16 years +) to start on 600mg daily. It seems like a very significant difference so maybe if you are concerned, you should check her dose with her doctor. Once trileptal has been introduced correctly and the patient has 'accepted' the drug, it is usual for a dose of 1200mg to be prescribed (for adults) daily.
I hope this helps?
