My 28 yrs old son has suffered severe pain due to herniated disc, but after MRI doctor said he has abdominal abscess in his lower spine between disc, they rejected to do biopsy to determine what type of bacteria it is as risk is too high than good. Now they treat him with cloxacillin for 6 weeks which I think is a very long period of time to take antibiotic, very worry that there would be side effects that would cause life time damage to any of his organs. Is there other kind of treatment that might has less side effects?
Wing; Really sounds like your son has a very good doctor. Cloxacillin has been around and much stronger and safer than lots of the newer medications for these type of infections. Also without long term effects like some of the other antibiotics that are used these days. All well be okay mom if I were having this done and had the infection I would rather have this antibiotic than just about any other and 6 weeks is very common with this type of infections.
