The big thing is severe hypoglycemia. If that occurs frequently then there can be changes in kidney function and other processes in the body. That is why blood sugars should be done several times a day if you're using insulin.
Also you have to rotate sites or you can get lumps or depressions in your skin.
When you're on the drugs like insulin, you have to consider what happens without it too. Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) can cause damage to organs and nerves in the body. Including kidney function, and blindness.
