These are fertility medicines. Clomiphene is used to induce ovulation (it stimulates your ovaries to release eggs). Dydrogesterone is a synthetic hormone similar to progesterone and is given along with clomiphene to help to keep your reproductive cycle regular. Clomiphene is a mixture, in approximately a 3:2 ratio of 2 geometric isomers, enclomiphene and zuclomiphene. Enclomiphene is primarily responsible for the ovulation-inducing actions of Clomiphene.
You might ovulate and conceive in the first month of taking your fertility medicines or it can take a month or two of drug therapy for you to start ovulating regularly. Treatment may be continued for up to six cycles, as this is thought to be long enough to see whether your body is responding to the drug. Clomifene citrate can cause a wide range of minor side-effects, including:hot flushes, mood swings, breast tenderness, nausea and abdominal pain. If you are having trouble conceiving and you would like to have a family continue to take the medicines your doctor has precribed.
Recent studies also suggests that enclomiphene may raise testosterone levels and sperm counts in men.
