Hi I am about to go on prozac. My doctor is starting me off on 10mg for a week and if it works well for me then 20mg. A lot of the reason I am depressed is because of my appearance and I'm worried that I will gain weight on this. Is it more likely to gain or lose weight on this drug? Also, I am going to college in the fall and will want to go out and drink so should I skip the prozac on days that I am going to go drink on? I dont want to be relying on a drug my whole life, so im pretty nervous how this is going to go.
What are the side effects for being a 18 year old on prozac?

No, you can't take it and not take it and drink in between, and, 1 week is not typically near enough time to know if a dosage is right for you, go up too soon and you will not have a good sense of what's going on.
You're young enough to take on non medication solutions for your feelings. Better to take a few years take on the necessary behavioral approaches opposed to beginning what can be a progressive, increasing need for these meds. If you're feeling you'll be well enough to go party and drink, chances are you can take this by the tail and bypass the med approach altogether. Just an opinion of course.
YEP, deal with your major disorder, Prozac doesn't work in one or two weeks. You won't have to worry about drinking because it's illegal to drink
until you are 21, SURE. Counseling might help.
