Im on a Suboxone Treatment Program. My last urine test came back that I was Pregnate, so they switched me from suboxone to subutex. From what i have read though you should not be taking either if pregnate. Can anyone clarify this for me? I do not want to harm my baby, or have to make it go though withdrawls when born.
I believe they are the same thing. Unless the "Subutex" doesn't have the Naltrexone in it. Either way, your baby WILL go through withdrawal if it is used to getting any kind of opioid medication (including opioid blockers), and then is born and suddenly no longer is getting the medication the same way you would go through withdrawal if the Suboxone or Subutex was suddenly taken away from you. The best thing for you to do is ask your doctor to help you slowly titrate off of the mediation as soon as possible so it is not a problem when the baby is born. It is very considerate of you to not want your baby to go through withdrawal. He or she won't have to, and neither will you if you explain to your doctor that you want to taper off of the drug for the sake of your baby before it is born. If the doctor cannot help you, post again here and ask how to get off suboxone for your unborn child's sake ASAP - post in the question the dose you are on and say you need a "titration schedule to get off ______ mg of Suboxone a day before_________date, and you should get the answers that you need. Best of luck to you and that very blessed baby to have a mother like you, that cares! :-)
I am not a doctor, but I have worked A's a newborn nursery nurse, and I can tell you that if you are on any kind of opiate, which Subutex is, your baby will be born addicted to it and suffer withdrawals after birth. Best thing for you would be to wean down off of it slowly , A's others have said to you. I've never seen a birth mom who was on Subutex that I was aware of. It is a fairly new drug, and the latest way to try and get off of narcotics. You need to be off of it also, because if you need any kind of pain meds for your labor and delivery, it would be best to not be taking anything else with it. You may choose to go the drug free route for your delivery, although after having three kids myself, I don't recommend it Ha!Ha! But that is your choice. Whatever you decide, talk to your doctor about it so he is aware of your situation. He will determine the safest way for you to go. NIK
