I have been on Morphine Sulfate IR 30 mgs two tabs every 4 hours as needed. I have a internal pain pump as well with morphine in it. My pain has been getting worse and worse. I've had four back surgeries. I am on disability it has been over 7 years now. The morphine I am taking oral is immediate release. I know they make a morphine pill that lasts longer. I was wondering if I should ask my doctor to put me on both of the morphine pills to see if it would help ease my back pain? My pain is so bad I just have to go to bed for days on end! I am on pills for muscle spasms as well. I have had injections in my back in the past with no success. Thanks for anyones help.
The morphine sulfate that is extended release is called Avinza. I don't know that it will help as you already are getting morphine from you pump and orally. You may have built up a tolerance to the morphine and need to change the oral medication to something else. I would definitely discuss this with your pain specialist. Only he/she can truly recommend what is best for you.
