Wife & I are 75 yrs of age. Our insurance BCBS will not pay for the shot, ($250.00). We're on a Pension & partial social security and some savings.
Does Merck have a paying program for seniors?
No insurance will pay for it. Its one of those dumb things, its cheaper then having to treat shingles, lol... Sometimes if you watch your public health office will have them for a cheap price. Mercks program is only for uninsured people, despite that our insurance won't pay for it. It also requires that for couples you make less then 62000 a year.
I agree with Sara. The shot is cheap or totally paid for by Medicare if you have secondary. Have you actually called the insurance recently? It would help others to know what you find. Please write back and let us know.
I had shingles a year and a half ago and still get breakouts from it. I was in the hospital for three days and in excruciating pain. It still happens to this day. Four spots right now. Keep pushing to get the shot. Under $40,000 is still a decent amount of income. We all pick what is important. I hope you find your solution soon.
