I have very severe pain in my stomach region that is in the general area underneath my rib cage and directly in the center of my abdomen, and the pain will also very often radiate into my lower back. I have had an Upper GI and ultrasounds but Dr.'s are still not able to provide a diagnosis other than it is NOT just acid reflux and an ulcer has not been ruled out. I have taken Protonix on occasion which does help, just not every time. The amount of pain has increased dramatically over the past few weeks that I'm almost incapable of doing anything but lay down. If anyone has experienced symptoms similar to mine and can offer any advice to discuss with a physician, I would be so grateful. Thank you in advance!
Have they done a HIDA scan to see if it is your gallbladder? You didn't say which side the pain is on. Gallbladder or biliary pain will be on the right side and often radiates to the back. I had this type of pain for years and they checked for stones by CT scan, which I never had, then I had a HIDA scan which showed there were no stones but my gallbladder was barely functioning. When the surgeon removed it he told me ti had been diseased for some time!!
Has you Pancreas been checked? It also sounds like it may be a Hiatal Hernia. You may want to ask about that as well. I have the same pain it sounds like and I am being checked for a Hiatal Hernia and a special stool sample is being done to find out if there is a bacteria growing wild in my intestinal tract. You may wat to ask about an ERCP, as well. I hope this info helps some take care and hope you feel better soon, marjorie zych
