So I've been dealing with a chronic anal fissure for about a year now and the pain is getting to be unbearable. Unsure if I should go to the emergency room or wait it out. Everytime I use the bathroom there's a lot of blood, regardless if it's hard or soft stool. I've seen my GI doc but waiting to hear back from them. Also taking laxatives, drinking lots of water, sitz baths not helping anymore and eating loads of fiber. I'm usually really good coping with the pain but this is too much. But is it worth a trip to the hospital? Please help!!
ER and Chronic are two words that shouldn't go together.
If it's Chronic the doctor should have treated you so you don't have such awful symptoms. It sounds Acute with so much pain and bleeding perhaps there is a different problem brewing.
If it's truly chronic he needs to provide better symptom management or education so you don't have to worry what to do.
You may want to ask him if you could go to colo-rectal specialist until things are under control! Feel better ...
PS... When in doubt, go to the ER.
