Okay so, lately I've been experiencing an intense aching that starts in my ankle and travels up and hits my knee. The pain often radiates into my thigh as well. I figured it must be from walking around on brick floors all day wearing crappy slip resistant shoes but the pain just gets more and more intense each time it occurs. Being the hypochondriac that I am, I'm starting to freak out. Please help!!
First off ... Don't freak out!
It only makes matters worse.
Second off... Don't think of yourself is a hypochondriac. You may have anxiety but work on managing it. Why? If you see yourself as a hypochondriac, your doc and those around you will attribute symptoms to you being you.
After all, even hypochondriacs get sick.
Is it time for a check-up? If you are due in a month, you may want to make an earlier appointment to relieve your anxiety by finding out what is wrong.
Think back before it started. Is there anything at all, no matter how small, that you did differently? Any possible injury? Any new footwear besides the crappy slip-resistant? If the onset was sudden I tend to think its not related to the shoes. If you noticed discomfort coming on for months it may be the shoes. Lol... sounds like you should buy a new pair that you will bond with better.
If it traveled in the opposite direction, I would think neurogical but it may be. Do you have paresthias... numbness or tingling?
Do you have arthritis? A bunion?
If so, it could be an exacerbation of these underlying conditions.
It is summer, were you walking in the sand?
Were you carrying something heavy prior to onset?
Did you start on any new Meds? I started on Cipro and a week later had excruciating one knee pain. I was immobilized! 48 hours later it was gone. Cipro causes tendon tearing and usually is the Achilles. Meds do these things.
1- See a doctor or podiatrist.
2- Throw out your crappy shoes/flip-flops.
3- Take NSAIDS (Aleve,Ibuprophen) max amounts for a few days and see what happens.
4- Baby your foot and keep it elevated.
5- Apply ice.
6- Try using an ace wrap. Apply properly!
If you are running a fever or there is redness or swelling...
Go to a doctor tomorrow!
Feet are very important to our general well-being.
Be well and RELAX!
