I was just wondering how long it takes for sertraline to start working? I've suffered from severe anxiety and panick attacks almost daily, I was on prozac for about 2 months and it didn't help at all and was causing insomnia so my Dr switched me to sertraline.
Hello Debbielynn11 I have taken sertraline how long have you been taking it now? It took me about a week just to get used to taking the medication and feeling happier than usual since mine was for depression and anxiety. I know how it feels for anxiety attacks. I was on sertraline and they start you on a smaller dose and if you are still having anxiety attacks go back and see you're doctor and they will try a higher dosage. Also don't ever miss a day taking this medication it is strong and causes some severe side effects.
Hi, Debbielynn! This is from the literature on sertraline (and applies to almost all antidepressants/anxiolytics):
"Sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working. Depressed mood, anxiety, and lack of interest in activities may need up to 6-8 weeks to fully improve."
Try to be patient and think positively each day. Zoloft is rated one of the three best SSRI's for anxiety disorders/panic attacks.
Best regards and I hope you're feeling better soon! Wildcat
