I've been taking Seroquel for Bipolar Disorder for years. Someone told me that Seroquel is also subscribed for people with insomnia? Is this true?

Although Seroquel is not stated as a treatment for insomnia, it appears it does help for sleep. Please see the reviews in the link below.
I'm so sorry your insurance doesn't cover Seroquel. It's so frustrating when you find a medication that works well and then find out Insurance doesn't cover it. Did you doctor write a note to the insurance company to try to overide the insurance not covering the Seroquel for you? I can't remember what the "note" is called but my doctor found a med to help my depression where nothing else tried worked. It was very expensive so my insurance wouldn't cover it. My pdoc asked for an "over ride," <,,, not the correct word) which the insurance then allowed.
For some reason it never got approved after 6 days I asked them to call something else in. Resperdal was called in and was ok but it stopped working after 5 days. I would have to raise the dosage.
What do you do when you've tried everything else? Only thing I haven't tried is lunesta can't afford the copayment for brand. They put be risperdal and I had to stop taking the because of the stigma of these meds used just for sleep.
Have you tried amitriptyline or trazedone? Sometimes a combination of meds works. How about melatonin? I think its irresponsible of a dr to prescribe it like it was some innocuous drug without serious side effects. When I noticed this trend here, I told my dr that if she ever got the idea of putting me on them and I'm not psychotic, don't even entertain the thought.
Hello Julvanv. In response to your question about seroquel... Yes it is also prescribed for insomnia. My Dr put me on Seroquel when I was suffering through some pretty long term insomnia sometimes going as long as 5 days with zero sleep. My Dr thought my insomnia may have been triggered by a mild case of depression as well so the seroquel helped with both.hope that helps you
Seroquel isn't an antidepressant.
Your right Kaismama. Seroquel is not an antidepressant. ts an anti psychotic & a mood stabilizer. In my situation it was used as a mood stabilizer taken with my antidepressants. My husband takes it for bipolar. I misspoke. My mistake :-)

Marvell, Thank you so much for the link. Great information. I gleaned more information that I didn't know about even though I've been taking Seroquel for so many years!
