if I have had a serious reaction to diazepam ( depression paranoia delusional ) bassically diazepam did the opposite of what it was intended for will gabapentin cause the same reaction ?? I can not take xanax or any drugs in that category due to the adverse reactions i have had should i worry that gabapentin might do the same thing?? I have been given gabapentin for nerve pain for my neck I recently had my c5 c6 and c7 fused together and was prescribed this for the nerve pain .. but after the reaction I had from the diazepam i was given for vertigo I"m leary of any drugs that have the possible side effects this one has ..

These two medications are in complete different classes The Gabapentin is not related to any type of benzodiazepines such as Valium or Xanax. Most people do real well on Gabapentin for the use you are using it for.And your doctor is aware of the problems you had with the other medications and this is not even close to it.Also they start you on a very low dose and slowly increase it to the effective dose for each person. You do want to try and take it about the same times each day to keep a good blood level. HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND Chuck1957
Hello I think Chuck gave you a good answer and he is right but I am going to explain further because there is a clear reason why you had that reaction to the one medicine and why you will not have those same three reactions with gabapentin. The diazepam is a downer sort of speak and that affects your brain by making you in a downed state causing your paranoia and delusional depression. However gabapentin works on your nerves in a sense to reduce or eliminate pain. It isn't a drug that works right in your brain causing side effects you experienced. I am positive that gabapentin will serve you better. If you had an adverse reactions to Xanax I am surprised that they attempted diazepam since they both fall under benzodiazepine or downer although Xanax is stronger than diazepam generally depending on the mg. gabapentin won't make you feel paranoid, anxious etc.
