A foreign couple in Kunming China sought out polio immunization for their infant but the Doctor, unfamiliar with the practice, ordered and injected a serious overdose. He then told the couple that the child will likely get Polio within a year. Other Doctors have told the couple that they do not know what will occur or what, if anything, can be done. Can anyone confirm or deny the possibility of developing the disease or if anything can be done to rectify the situation?
It really is difficult to say. We need the name of the medication as there are a variety of vaccines with different formulations and delivery methods.
Ultimately I found that they all use a inactivated polio virus, highly purified. Nothing mentioned polio developing after an overdose. They were mostly rare but immediate side effects. If it was the triple pediatric vaccine problems will be more likely.
Once administered, the effects can't be undone, although information seems scarce. The information here seems to reaffirm that overdosing on this product is almost impossible: https://www.drugs.com/mtm/polio-vaccine.html
If they got the tripple vaccine (polio, diptheria and tetanus) then I really have no idea.
