Lots of cats and dogs are dying from the use of the Flea and Tick Stuff. My friends family cat was given this by the Vet and after they got home the cat went into seizures. get the company who makes this product take it off the market please. I bet you would not like to see your cat or dog shaking and there is nothing the vet can do.
I agree this is awful, but I don't know what you think we can do about it. You've done some by posting it here because we'll all see it and we love our pets. Hopefully that vet will stop prescribing it. I do believe however that there is a warning on the label that this can happen. I seem to remember reading something to that effect on other flea and tick treatments I've used. I've been looking for it so I can see what is in it and read the box, but I can't even find the squeeze on things for cats. Just the collar. I stick to frontline or pet armour, I know they are safe for my dogs. Generally the squeeze on things aren't used for cats because they can lick almost all of their body and its harmful if ingested. I would be devasted if something like this happened to my little dogs, so I can understand your feelings, I just can't do much about it.
Frankly I'd never use it because I would be suspicious of the fact that its so much cheaper then other treatments like this. There has to be a reason. My dogs only get what my vet recommends and she never uses this brand.
Your friend can write to sergeants about it, and complain. She can search for sites that have reviews on it and add hers for others to see. Here is one I'd recommend complaintsboard.com/complaints/sergeants-flea-control-c92268.html
Dear Screaming, I'm very sorry to hear of your friend's experience and, honestly, it doesn't surprise me. The OTC flea products (Sergeant's, Hartz Mountain, etc.) use older chemicals or unmonitored dosages which can be extremely toxic to small breed dogs and especially cats.
I'm a bit taken aback that a veterinarian would even prescribe or dispense anything but prescription products. Your friend should register a complaint directly to Sergeant's ~ all that usually happens is they'll offer to refund the vet bills, but they have to document and report the complaints. Eventually, they have to identify the problem and resolve it or withdraw the product from market.
It would help if the veterinarian contacts Sergeant's, especially of (s)he/he has knowledge of other incidents.
The very best of luck to you all! WCV
I have been seeing more and more and now a video is being sent through the facebook community showing a cat with its family loving it and crying because they have to put it down and it can't stop shaking. Don't BUY the product! Petition it! Beg for it to be banned! Animals and owners should NEVER have to suffer such cruelty!
Hey everyone who is against these bad flea/tick products! there is something you can do!! Call your vets and urge them not to sell or use these products anymore! Write the companies and tell them to stop making these harmful drugs! Let them know that if they don't you will take your business elsewhere! and then tell your friends to do the same! Consumers have the power-I know it doesn't seem that way but they do! Ask your local paper to do a story on this topic to help educate others! :) I watched that video just now of that poor cat/family-horrific to say the least!! the more peeps start talking about the issue the sooner it will be taken off the market! I went to Sergeant's webpage and there were the same comments and issues dated back to 2008 on their complaints page! :/ write your local government too! who doesn't love a cat or dog?
I accidentally gave my cat the wrong tube..my cat suffered, seizered, drooling mouth, panting, internal bleeding, etc. ... he was put to sleep later that evening.
First change the labeling as all the tubes look the same, the print is way way to small... I know i'm not the first to make this mistake..yet from what I've seen and the many years of complaints... all the products for this brand should be taken off the shelves. unreal to know how fast a set of ingredients can destroy life..simple unreal. I'll never have bolt in my life again.. a mission now to help save the next victim pet to these products. ..so sad.
