So about a month ago I got sick with a bad phlegmy cough , I went to a doctor & got some antibiotics , I finished this course of medication but I did not feel any better. Then my cough changed , instead of just a normal cough , when I had a coughing fit , I would try to catch my breath , but it felt as though my throat has closed up and i would be gasping for air until my throat eventually relaxed . This happened about 4 times , it was really scary , so I went back to the doctor and was prescribed steroids to get rid of the cough. At this point I was preventing myself from coughing at all costs as I was terrified I would feel the throat closure feeling again . I finished the steroids and it seemed to have helped & that I was on the mend , but now my throat just seems so sensitive ? I don't have phlegm anymore but anything from breathing in too quickly to drinking water or taking my asthma puffer gives me this uncontrollable urge to cough & gag , it is dry but like I'm going to vomit almost . I've been sucking on menthol lozenges a lot because its the only thing that seems to help with the coughing urge . I feel like it's never going to go away and I'm not sure what to do :(
I was sick with the flu for a month recently and my throat bothered me for at least two weeks after. One time I was also prescribed steroids to clear up inflammation in my throat after a cold, it took about a month to clear that up as well. Best I can tell you is to soldier on and if need be visit the doctor again, it takes awhile to get rid of this kind of stuff.
