I work in ICU and a co worker who is 25 yrs old started prestiq 2 months ago. She had a seizure while at work and takes no other meds. She has no history of seizures. She has been seizing very frequently (every 8 min). She was flown to a better equiped hospital and after a day and a half she experienced a cardiac arrest. She was intubated and sedated. When they tried to wean her off of the sedation, she seizes. She now has a 42% chance of survival. Can anyone tell me if they know anyone else that has developed seizures while taking this med. Thank you so much for your help.
Hey my friend,
I am so sorry to hear about your friend. This is a rare but possible side effect. This is what the literature based on clinical studies says:
Cases of seizure have been reported in pre-marketing clinical studies with Pristiq. Pristiq has not been systematically evaluated in patients with a seizure disorder. Patients with a history of seizures were excluded from pre-marketing clinical studies. Pristiq should be prescribed with caution in patients with a seizure disorder.
As, I guess, she never had a seizure before taking the Pristiq, the doctor would not have known to not prescribe. I have taken Pristiq now for several months and have good results. I wish your friend had the same.
I'll pray for her complete recovery. Wish I could do more.
