have severe sonstipation and what have you found to be be most helpful? Sometimes the constipation is even worse than the pain (sometimes)
I, too, drink a LOT of water and be sure to get a good amount of fiber. I will eat high fiber cereals if I need extra fiber. I will, on occasion, use colace or Miralax but I find it best to alternate laxatives because if you use something all the time, your body gets resistant to the effects. Senna is another good one.
Also be aware that any opiates create constipation. Fiber and fluids. at least 8 full glasses of water per day will help. Exercise is important as the bowels respond better to us moving around. Even a slow walk down the block will help. Heavy meat diet can add to constipation. Much harder for the body to,process.
Added Lyrica about a month ago for fibro and myofascial pain syndrome and it is really working at 300 mg/day; however, I have one major side effect: Constipation. I also take Cymbalta 120 mg/day so maybe it's the two combined since it is listed as a side effect for both meds. Also have Percocet but haven't needed it in a couple of months. I feel so much better, like night and day on most days, so I don't want to stop Lyrica. Going to ask my pain doc in a couple of weeks if there is a prescription drug I can take that will alleviate it. Otherwise I'm taking stool softeners, Miralax, Dulcolax suppositories. So I'm getting some relief but I never have a clue as to what will or will not work at any given time. Drink eight glasses of water a day and eat foods with high fiber content. Don't know what else to do!!! Sorry to blather on so long -- guess this is just long-winded way of saying "I feel your pain."
