My daughter has a drug problem and I recently found out she is taking that and zanax. Please advise
Suboxone is an opioid drug used for treatment of opioid dependence. It should be used in conjunction with counselling and psychological support with a team of health professionals. It helps to block the cravings for opioid drugs. In a person with opiod dependence the drug will not make the "high" but it will help block the cravings. It does help with pain in some people but it is mainly used for opioid addiction. It is somewhat similar to methadone in the manner of its use and actions but they are very different drugs. Suboxone should eventually be tapered down until the patient can stop altogether. It should be a temporary support to get off opioid drugs. Taking it with Xanax can be a bit risky however and they can lead to respiratory depression. She should have very close monitoring and supervision. Xanax is very habit forming and should ONLY be used in the doses as directed. In many cases, Xanax is even harder to stop once one is addicted than opioids. It should be used VERY short term for the restless feeling caused by withdrawal.
