I want to start a nonprofit group so I started searching the internet for support groups. I've found alot but none that raise money. I suffer from sciatica and the only thing that ever helped my pain was epidural steroid injections. Once I was no longer covered under my parents health insurance I had no insurance of my own and suffered from terrible chronic pain for months. Unable to work, walk, do the things I loved. I became pregnant and had a miscarriage. This gave me medicaid for two months. (apparently being a pregnant woman makes your life worth more than those women who choose not to have kids) anywho, i took this insurance and got an injection and am now pain free. I was provided with every alternative route through free clinics, and charity groups through hospitals but NONE of them covered an injection. It wasn't until I got mediciad for two months that I was able to find relief and go back to work. Once the injection wears off I will once again find myself without a job crying in searing pain every day. Are there any support groups that help pay for treatments that some may not be able to afford? One that raises money? An injection costs $2000...
Some hospitals have funds that are set aside for people who cannot afford their treatments. I recently had blood pulled for three hundred, and I spoke to the financial staff at the clinic. They covered it for me.
Its worth asking if the hospital or clinic you go to has a finance plan for people with low incomes. The worst they can say is no.
I don't know where you live, but in FL there is a program that few know about. It is vocational rehab and it pays 100% of all medical, doctor, and prescription costs for any procedures you need so that you can return to work. Of course, epidurals are a continuing course of treatment, and I don't know if VR will cover those. VR is meant to be a short-term program for folks who have no insurance and cannot work due to medical conditions. I used it once many years ago for my neck. It can't hurt to check into what your state offers that is similar.
