I have been on savella for 18 days now for fm my legs hurt so bad I'm bedridden most days and it's so hard as I'm a single mom. Also I have rage moments are these side effects I'm not on any other medication because The sleeping pill doesn't work I'm up til like 4 am and I've tried melatonin with no help
Hi Kat, sorry you're having a hard time. I took Savella too, it was great for pain but I got really testy, to say the least, on it. My evil twin took over bigtime.
Could be you don't need an anti-depressant and though it's good for the fibro pain, if you're not clinically depressed it could be affecting you adversely both emotionally/mentally. I don't think you mentioned what your dose is but some docs start off way higher than others, and tapering upto the dose is very important. These are just some things for you to consider with your doctor.
I've had severe leg pain from fibro since I was a child. The one thing I have to say is, you need to get up and moving. Staying in any position too long makes them worse. Plus you lay in bed and think about how rotten you feel, instead of getting involved in life. Don't let it get you, you've got to get a grip on it. I'm sure the doctor could prescribe some things for you that would help too, is he a rheumatologist? If not you should find one, they are the specialists who take care of fibro. You probably can't deal with the Savella so maybe cymbalta. Lyrica or gabapentin helps. Something for pain would be nice too.
I totally agree with kaismama answer on this. I have had fibro all my life, but never took anything for it. I was on Lyrica for a while, but had bad side effects from it too. Swelling & high blood pressure. Savella is also one that can cause high blood pressure. If you lay in bed, & don't keep moving & exercising, you are going to feel than better. Moving, & stretching exercises are the clue here. Go to the library or better yet walk to the library & get a DVD & book on yoga exercises. Simple, but very effective. I know it hurts, but the more you let your muscles go lax the worse it will get. Just my thoughts... Mary
I have been on Savella for 4 months now. I do have mood swings with this medication. I have also found that the first 2 months this drug did help quite a bit, my Hydrocodone intake did go down. Now it seems to be helping very little. My doctor said he has heard this from a lot of his Fibro patients taking Savella. I take 50mg 2x a day. Currently I am continuing with the Savella in the hopes that it will start to make the difference it once did. Savella is also expensive. I pay $130 a month for mine. I am now taking the Savella and morphine sulfate ER 30mg 3x a day and hydrocodone 10/325 up to 4 times a day for break through pain. The morphine I have only been on for a few weeks and has made a huge difference. I still have some bad days but for the most part my pain is tolerable. I can function.
