It's not Lamictal or Trileptal or Abilify? She takes the last 2 medicines now. Well they have a moderate interaction together. Trileptal has a moderate interaction with psychosis. Abilify has a moderate interaction with Bipolar Disorder.. now why would they prescribe these to anyone who is bipolar? Oh the fact that Abilify causes suicidal tendencies in people who have never been suicidal ever in their entire life. She tried to commit suicide in April. She's one of those who had never been suicidal at all. I'm fed up and frustrated with these so called mental health doctors or nurse practitioners. I want what is best for my daughter. Please help me
What is the safest medicine for a 13 yr old who has bipolar type 2 disorder?

Lithium Carbonate or Lamictal have been effective for me. I started taking Lithium carbonate for bipolar 2 when I was 17 yrs old and I was on it for 43 yrs and I was able to live a normal life. Just recently, I switched to Lamictal because I started having thyroid issues because of the Lithium. Trileptal is an anticonvulsant medication like Lamictal which is used for bipolar. It is used for bipolar to stabilize moods. Lamictal and Lithium are supposed to be first-line treatment for bipolar.
Lithium has a risk of toxicity when it falls out of range in your bloodstream so it's got to be checked. Lamictal has to be increased very slowly because of a risk of a rash.
For me, Lamictal and Lithium have been great once I found the best dosage for myself. I would seek out another doctor (another opinion).

Thank you for your response. She isn't old enough for Lamictal. She also had several side effects from it. She was taking it from September 2017 until December 2017. She has type 2 it caused her to have hypomanic episodes the only ones I've ever seen her have period. Also it messed her sleep up. She wouldn't fall asleep or she'd sleep 2 hrs then awake 2 hrs sleep 2 hrs etc. It's not approved for under 16 yrs old for bipolar disorder. Why I don't remember. So far the trileptal she is doing just fine. No side effects. I'm just worried about her with how hard it is to get meds correct with Bipolar Disorder. I'm sure you understand. She tried to commit suicide in April. I know abilify causes suicidal tendicies in people who have never had them ever. It's a side effect of it. I believe that's what caused her to do it. Anyway thank you!! Oh make sure if you have any issues with your eyes go to the Dr.

Lamictal causes binding of the eyes and other mellinan rich tissues. If you have any advice period for me or even her feel free to send me a message on here. It would be greatly appreciated.
Can she take lithium? It brought me out of deep depression.
I don't know. They have not even mentioned it once!! My husband takes it. He's been taking it for a while now. It's safer than Lamictal or trileptal or abilify. I'm going by the paperwork from the pharmacy too. His is 2 pages. Her's: trileptal 2-3 pages normal 4 page medication guide= 6-7 pages with 4-5 front and back. Abilify 2 pages normal 3-4 page medication guide= 5-6 pages with 3-4 front and back. Now I may have the 2 switched on the amount of pages. Abilify lowers your white blood cell count, has the overheating thing like lithium, states to stay out of the sun(haha real funny for an active bike riding & skate boarding kid... ) then trileptal lowers the amount of sodium in your body so she's got a double dose of dehydration causing & passing out, heatstroke, & hospitalization side effects to be careful of.

She's supposed to go to my mom's in Panama City well she won't even be able to go to the beach without a d**g(the * means I don't know if it's an allowed word even with it not being a cuss words) umbrella ya know those giant ones or she's liable to be in a hospital down there... What's the point of going to Florida if you can't even go to the beach for a few hours?? There isn't if you ask me. Then again I lived down there I'm good I'll stick with my mountains and my variety of trees. Lol I saw an adolescent bear last week. They have such cute ears. Anyway. Where she goes for her psychiatrist well you have to call the week before it's time for their appt. example: she went to the Dr on May 15 I call on June 5th to schedule her appt for the very next Tuesday the 12th since the "nurse practitioner" (what she sees... ) Is only available on. Tuesday of each week from 9:00am to 12:00pm. So if she needs to see her forget it until a Tuesday and if there's an opening. Yeah that's nuts. I'm going to check Emory out. My sister was seen by one of the best neurologist in the country for her disease there. He's still there too and they have a psychiatrist Dept. It's just it's a 2 hour drive one way. Fun fun. Anyway i like having someone who will talk to me about her disorder and gives advice. No my husband doesn't talk to me about it unless I basically make him and then it's clipped short answers and he's done with the conversation in like 20-30 minutes tops.

If your husband takes lithium and it works for him then I think that it would probably work for your daughter. Initially, with lithium, I had slight tremors in my hands, but that went away. I never had sensitivity to the sun on lithium. When I recently started on Lamictal, I became sensitive to the sun.
I think that feeling stable and being able to function far out weighs some of the side effects, that might actually go away with time.
Lithium and Lamictal both have side effects. Some people have certain ones and some don’t. You have to get with a doctor and make sure your daughter takes her medication (same dosage) everyday consistently.
I am going to speak with her Dr. The thing is abilify says to stay out of the sun and I haven't checked the trileptal yet. The thing is abilify is classified as an antidepressant or so it says on the paper work. I guess I'm just worrying way too much. My mom would tell me to stop it or I'm gonna give myself a heart attack or a stroke. I've had some severe edima and fluid retention. My blood pressure is high I guess that's why when I loose my temper I get a migraine. I just want her to be okay! Abilify causes tardive dyskinesia which can be permanent. It's a type tremors or muscle spasms you can't control. Not to mention the deadly syndrome it causes. Trileptal causes Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic Epidermal necroylsis. Yeah skin rashes... All these deadly side effects scare the crap out of me. She used to complain with headaches and back aches and back aches in kidney area with Lamictal.

Now it's her stomach constantly hurts, nausea and vomiting pretty much all the time. The vomiting is only maybe every once in a while. The stomach pain and nausea are every day. She's always dizzy and lightheaded when she gets up even very slowly like it says to on abilify. I just don't want to cause her harm having her medicine switched all the time. It was the pharmacist who told me to get off her the Lamictal immediately. She said don't give it to her anymore. She also said it was not approved safe for kids her age for bipolar disorder. Now when a pharmacist tells you to stop giving your kid medicine immediately without consulting their Dr first that scares the holy living crap and flips you out and panicking and everything else to go with it you can think of lol!! I was so livid with the other pharmacist she said it was safe for her age. That tells you who cares and who knows their drugs info!! That should be on the pharmaceutical papers!! I had to basically go to the FDA or manufacturer site to find that out. That's not right!! They could cause someone's child a lot of harm or cause their death not listing it on the papers. Then again all these Drs should know that fact too considering they have to prescribe it. There should be a book with a list of meds not safe for under 16 or whatever. Of course thats just my opinion.
