I have been on vicodin for the past 4 yrs (@ 3 a day) due 2 a really bad car accident. I suffer from pain in lower back; pinched nerves, herniations in back & neck, severe spasms in entire back, groin pain, etc. I suffer from weakness from my hips down to my legs 2 where I need to hold on2 anything that will prevent me from falling til weakness goes away. If I sit down, its hard 4 me 2 get up & need help just 2 stand up. I have limited myself to 1-2 a day. I dont take at bedtime. The pain in my lower back will wake my up (4-6 a.m.) and I will try & rock myself 2 sleep but the uncomfortable tingling, prickly, numbness & painful feeling I get in lower back makes me get out of bed 2 take the vicodin. Once Im out of bed, I end up on couch dozing off but not fully sleeping n up no later than approx. 8 a.m. I am trying to limit myself & find myself using the bathroom (not 2 sound disgusting) with very, very soft stool & feeling fatigue throughout the day. I have read numerous comments bout ppl being on pain meds & how they go 2 thru withdrawals. I dont know if its safe to try & stop on my own but I do know that I dont want 2 have 2 take supplements 2 counteract it. I believe that I am going thru some of the withdrawals but I rather go through it on my own & not depend on other meds 2 counteract 'cauz then I would have 2 take other meds to counteract those other meds. Then it becomes a cycle of taking meds 2 counteract 1 med, 2 counteract that 1 & so on & so on. I dont know if this is good 2 do on my own, but I am willing 2 try...
No it's not normally dangerous but your blood pressure will rise past normal for awhile but there is a drug called clonidine( I might have spelled it wrong) that I'm sure your doctor would give you if you tell him/her what it's for. It is fairly some people would use the word very, uncomfortable though & if you want to stop cold turkey there isn't much you can take besides benzodiazepines(Valume, lorazepam ect.) that take away some of the anxiety. There is a way of making it less severe & that would be to wean yourself down before you stop so your not coming off as high of a dose. I myself find that marijuana helps the best but some people have there own ideas about that so I just say it & they can make up there own minds depending where they stand on pot. You will probably get some more good ideas from people on this site & you can come up with your own plan, also someone will most likely spell Clonidine, the blood pressure medication right if I haven't. Best of luck.
