Is It safe to use Tussidane for a patient who is 4 months pregnant?

Tussidane (dextromethorphan) should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. Animal studies have shown malformations of the fetus. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy.
Dextromethorphan has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA.
