I started taking this birth control, microgestin fe 1/20 28 pill pack with 7 green pills, on the 3rd day of my period as my doctor told me because I had an appointment that day, I've taken it at the same time everyday and tomorrow will be the last day of my first pill pack, my question is when will be be safe to have unprotected sex? I've heard multiple things so I'm not sure what to go by especially because I know the first time relying on it as my only form of protection so I would like to ease my mind a little bit, I have had some spotting and cramping this month around when I would regularly get my period but nothing too major otherwise I have had nothing but positive things happen while on this
You only need back up protection the first seven days, after that you are fully protected and no longer need to use back up (except as STD protection, if you will) as long as you are taking your pills correctly and consistently, every day at roughly the same time of day. Some physicians prefer you use back up until you have completed the first full pack but the manufacturer says you are protected after seven consecutive days of active pills. So you are protected now and do not need back up unless you prefer to use condoms for STD protection.
