US FDA pregnancy category: B Comments: Clindamycin solution for injection contains benzyl alcohol as a preservative, which can cross the placenta and is associated with the potentially fatal "gasping syndrome" in pediatric patients.
There haven't been enough studies to know if clindamycin use during the 1st trimester is safe or not. Using it during the 2nd & 3rd trimesters hasn't caused any harm to babies.
