Hello. It has been somewhat effective for quitting smoking. However the therapeutic dose is almost the toxic dose. This is an alkaloid. Alkaloids are poisonous to humans. The FDA stopped it being prescribed in 1993 because of this.
"The dried leaves and tops of Lobelia inflata (family Lobeliaceae); lobelia contains several alkaloids: lobeline, lobelamine, lobelanidine, lobelanine, norlobelanine, norlobelanidine, and isolobelanine. The fluid extract and the tincture have been used as an expectorant in asthma and chronic bronchitis... "
And if you check the info on this plant in the medication checker above, you will find that many results were not very effective. Your doctor may have to monitor the use so that you stay safe. Lot of side effects. Perhaps a bit more research will help you decide.
