My 14 yr old generally healty but started coughing hard few months ago, seeing respiratory specialist who's done many many tests but couldn't diagnose her with anything specific..few days ago he prescribed Azithromycin for 3 months..not sure to go with it or not? Feeling extremely worried that it might treat the cough but harm her general health..
It is safe, however it bothers me that a 14 yr old has a cough they can't diagnose. Have they checked him for all the fungi and parasites that you can get in your lungs?
I have seen this used many times for long term, But not in a child I wonder as Kaismama has said strange that they can't find anything I might take my child for a 2nd Opinion this is not really a normal thing in a 14-year-old.
Okay well, this is good I think knowing this last part and I did not see that he or she which is it. was having problems with Phlegm also this can make a difference, Please start the child on this it is very safe as far as antibiotic's go just don't like long term when they really don't know. But have to catch it before it gets worse. But now that this is a specialist and has a good rep. Myself feel like it is more on track just make sure that you get the follow-up appt. Let me know or us how things are going have to keep those lungs clear.
