I've had panic attacks and insomnia for a few years now. I've been on Ambien and Xanax. My doctor has very recently prescribed trazodone to use in place of Ambien. The only problem is I work the graveyard shift 10 at night to 6 in the morning. Taking trazodone in the morning when I get home makes me sleep too long and I can't get my kids from school. My question is on my nights off would it be safe to take a trazodone and then the days I work when I come home and I have to take a nap could I instead take Ambien?
Calimom2; Really it sounds like the doctor is trying to get you off of the Ambien, And if you continue to try it the way you are saying it is hard to get a blood level of the Trazodone but normally the Trazodone does not hit you this hard after 3 to 5 days and you should be able to wake up. You really should try to stay on the Trazodone and if continues to be a problem then call your doctor and let them know. But almost everyone that starts with Trazodone the first few nights are really hard to sleep but then it lightens up after say 3 to 5 days and it may also help you with some of the daily anxiety as it gets in your system. Good luck to you. Chuck1957

Is insomnia usually a part of anxiety and stress? I take meds for all 3 and alcohol and know I need?
