a few days, is that a normal starting dose and can I split it in half? I know it says not to but wouldn’t it just act as IR? if anybody knows why I couldn’t take a quarter of it and see what 125mg feels like I'd appreciate it
Did a neurologist initially start you on the Depakote? If so I would most likely listen to the neurologist. Depakote is a seizure medication for people with epilepsy (I myself have epilepsy and was on Depakote for years with good success ) I also know it is used to treat things like bipolar. I do agree with your primary care physician though that if you are taking the Extended Release then yes you should be only taking it once a day. They made the extended release for people like us so we only have to take it once a day. Definitely do not break a extended release Depakote, or any extended release pill, in half. It can be very dangerous and is not like taking a IR pill. Broke open extended release absorbs very different in your body and can result in overdose or even not enough of the medication. If I were you i would definitely keep those 2 Dr.'s opinion in mind but also get a third opinion and see which 2 of the 3 docs agree with each other! Good luck to you
