My son was administered a shot yesterday and today his fever is still 104degrees fahrenheit?
Antibiotics generally work rapidly especially if given intravenously.
The severity of infection, correct diagnosis, antibiotic choice and health of the patient will all affect how quickly the medicine works. Ask your doctor when to expect results and find out what you should do if you experience no improvement after a couple of days.
An injection can take a few days to start working. You should begin to see some improvement tomorrow or the next day. Keep giving him anti-pyretics (drugs like ibuprofen or acetaminopehn or alternate the two) and keep him cool by sponging with lukewarm water when his fever is high. Be sure to give him lots of fluids and keep him well hydrated. If he is not better by day after tomorrow, call the doc. If he seems worse at any time, call his doc or go to ER or Urgent Care.
