my 7 year old daughter has been prescribed risperdal 0.05mg twice a day and it dose not seem to be helping she has been diagnosed with ADHD it seems to have the opposite effect making her very aggresive and out of control I have spoken to her doctor but I feel she is in the to hard basket I don't kwon what to do
Lately, they have been putting people with ADHD on things that I've never even heard of being used for the treatment. I know they don't like putting kids on stimulates, but they make tons of stuff without stimulates now. They just put my aunt on pristiq for ADHD. There are only 6 drugs approved by the FDA for use to treat ADHD/add that aren't specifically for the diagnoses for kids. Here is a link to google with some good information that came out recently.

I would get a second opinion, doctors are like shoes you have to try a couple until one fits ESP with shrinks. I goto a pcp with a note from my therapist, bc it was so hard to find someone to help that didn't put their own needs before their patients.
Have you tired clonodine ? Clonidine (trade name Kapvay or Nexiclon) is a sympatholytic medication used to treat high blood pressure, ADHD, anxiety/panic disorder, and certain pain conditions.
Clonidine is increasingly used in conjunction with stimulants to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), for which it is administered in late afternoon or evening for sleep, and because it sometimes helps moderate ADHD-associated impulsive and oppositional behavior, and may reduce tics, a problem in which a part of the body moves repeatedly and suddenly.
Clonidine along with methylphenidate has been studied for treatment of ADHD. In 2010, the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of clonidine either as an adjunct to traditional stimulant therapy or as a monotherapy in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Wish I could be more of a help to you, but if it isn't helping and you have talked to her doctor about it... maybe it's time you find another doctor. They can be very helpful sometimes or NOT! Some meds. can have the very opposite effect for what we are taking them for. I really believe you need a second opinion. Good Luck to you and your daughter!
My son was 7 when prescribed Clonidine, it helped however at 8 dr prescribed Risperdal and our life will never be the same.
For 3 months he took it now at 15 he's essentially destroyed, my overactive 7 year old completely withdrew, began seeing "ghosts" developed muscular problems and large breast also high BP before he averaged 120/70 he hasn't had a BP below 150/120 in years, stroke risk is debilitating.
He went from slim average to 330 lbs, that's a 14 year old weighing 330, the BP issues has been thoroughly explored by leading DR but none can find a cause.
Obviously everyone is different but if the manufacturer would have listed these things back then no way would he have taken them.
I understand they do now list these side effects but my god who would think they would happen to a happy kid, in his case they did.
Just our experience and I pray no harm to your child I just wish this drug wasn't around.
