It seems to me that the risks/side effects (such as weight gain and "brain fogs") far outweigh any benefit that I could get from this medication. I'm curious to see if anyone has had success in treating any anxiety disorder with Risperdal. I'm currently taking .5mg 3 times per day.
if you worry about the side affects, you might consider a different drug in the same class such as Abilify. It really seems to help with my anxiety, and i've noticed no side affects so far, and I've been on it almost a year.
Absolutely not..it's a high powered anti psychotic
I honestly would not take this medication for anxiety.
I totally agree with your worry on those side-effects! My son who took it for Autism behaviors gain a ton of weight and was fairly loopy(brain fog) and he now does amazing with Abilify 20mgs! That too can cause diabetes but all his labs have looked perfect since getting of that physcotropic. Some insurances will make you try 2 others before attempting Abilify(off label but Autism was on the list but my own GAD isn't). It all comes down to $, his script is $40 for 30 days but out-of-pocket it'd be $1105 and it keeps going up.
If they say you can, I'd say go for it but please keep up on tjat labwork!:o)
